Aquarium: How to Clean Sand in a Fish Tank

Having sand in my Fluval Edge planted tank has presented me with a new problem where maintenance is concerned. Obviously using the gravel cleaner is a bad idea as it will suck up all the sand. So how to clean sand in a fish tank?

I found this handy video on my searches.

An alternative method

The basic idea is to stir up the sand. Then leave it for a few minutes. Then take your hose pipe and begin to drain the tank, aim to be a few centimetres above so you pick up all the debris rather than the sand itself.

I’ll be doing this at the weekend along with my regular water changes.
